Introduction:

Here are a number of resources I use regularly and recommend others try too for further information. Other than owning and reading a physical Bible regularly as our primary source of infallible truth the others are in no particular order. There is a variety and hopefully includes something that everyone will like and find useful to support their reading of the Bible. God wants us to learn from each other but none of these extra biblical resources get absolutely everything right so you need a good cross section. Of the ones I recommend I usually find I agree with the vast majority of what they say. If I don’t agree with an issue with one of these resources then I have always found one of the others presents it in a way I do agree with. Just always check what is being said matches up with what the Bible is revealing to you when you read it. It is the actual Word of God after all. It was written for us to guide us to become who we were always meant to be.

The Bible:

This is the primary source of information we all need to study to learn more. No other source comes before the Bible. Always prioritise it above anything else. It is through diligent study of the whole Bible and prayer that we build our relationship with God. You will very quickly notice things start to happen in your life when you do both consistently. I recommend at the very least reading one chapter per day. I would recommend the English Standard Version (ESV) or New King James Version (NKJV) as a good solid starting point. There is much debate about which are good and bad Bible translations but in reality there are issues with every English translation because they are a translation from the very different languages of Hebrew and Greek. Even the revered King James Version (KJV) is not perfect. Most of us don’t speak Hebrew or Greek so God has provided us with an English translation. I believe most people agree that the two I have recommended are two of the very best English translations. When you want to look deeper into the detail of certain passages as your studies progress there are so many options out there these days to look up the original Hebrew and Greek words and what they mean. The Bible is like no other book. It is a Library of 66 books written by 40 authors over a near 2000 year period yet is still a perfectly united story that leads to Jesus. This is one of the many many amazing facts you will learn about it along the way.
